About me

My name is Maria João, I was born and raised in Lisbon, where I still live.
I hold a degree in Architecture and have been working in my own office for the last 20 years.
A few years ago I decided to get a new hobby, something I could do
with my teenage daughter , and playing with beads was our choice.

Nowadays my daughter is still a teenager but doesn't play with beads anymore. However I have become addicted to making jewellery and  spend most of my free time either stringing, reading about or buying beads !!

Previously, I did not pay that much attention to jewellery and always wore a gold chain with a beautiful pendant, but from the first necklace I made in early 2004, I realized that there was something about making beaded jewellery that kept a smile on my face.

I became interested in glass beads and began to read about their history and contemporary use in modern jewellery. That brought me to lampwork beads and the large community of artists making them.
These beads always fascinate me with their infinite combination of colours, shapes, transparencies and opacities and a large variety of designs that lead us from figurative to complete abstract landscapes. These beads are uniquely made by different artists
who can make the most beautiful pieces that I have ever seen out of glass rods and flames !!!

I design and create one of a kind jewellery, using a combination of top quality glass beads, semi-precious gemstones, Sterling Silver and lampwork beads that I source on the internet.
I always pay tribute to the artists, by naming the person who has created the beautiful the beautiful lampwork beads that I use in my designs.

My website will be constantly evolving with new pieces of jewellery being added regularly.
I am also planning on adding some interesting facts and information about Lisbon, so do visit me often !

I hope that you will enjoy looking at and wearing my work as much as I enjoy making it !
Email me if you have any comments and/or suggestions on both the website and the jewellery.
Take care and have a really nice day !
Regards.  Maria João.
